As a psychologist,
I've always known that physical symptoms are never "all in the
head," but neither are they all in the body. Immunologist, Candace
Pert's N.I.H. research on neuropeptides in the mid-'80's was quite
conclusive in that regard. Of course, Traditional Chinese Medicine
never (well at least not in the last 5000 years) made a distinction
between mind and body. Likewise, neither do most of the acupressure
based energy therapies that have poured onto the scene in the
last decade or so.
The newest
of these is NeuroModulation Technique (NMT), developed by chiropractor,
Leslie Feinberg and introduced in 2002. NMT is based on widely
accepted neurophysiological models and helps practitioners treat
conditions well out of the reach of other methods. It is the product
of 20 years of study of various energetic techniques such as TBM,
NAET, NET, JMT, and BEST. We knew these methods produced results;
but they were inconsistent. The goal of these methods was to correct
faulty function in the autonomic system responsible for many diseases
and musculoskeletal conditions. In studying these early techniques,
Feinberg decided to suspend disbelief, learn the methods, find
out what it was that worked about them, and what was coincidental.
NMT broke through a barrier and illuminated what had been a mystery
- how energetic medicine really works, and how it can be performed
with optimal efficacy.
NMT is a
treatment system based on a method of accessing and assessing
the autonomic control system of the patient through muscle testing.
Performance of the autonomic system is modulated with a combination
of corrective commands and statements and is further augmented
and reinforced with stimulation of vertebral segments (bladder
meridian), specific breathing patterns, and other sensory stimuli.
It is based on widely accepted neurophysiological models and generally
recognized principles of neurophysiology, physiology, psychology,
linguistics, and anatomy. It approaches very literally the proposition
that the closest analogy to the human nervous system is the digital
computer, and uses a unique form of muscle response testing to
access and assess the autonomic nervous system, and modulate the
performance of autonomic function with specific semantic reprogramming
and debugging scripts.
NeuroModulation
Technique produces profound results in virtually all forms of
illness that are provoked by faults in the function of the autonomic
nervous system. This includes allergies and sensitivities, degenerative
diseases such as all forms of arthritis; multiple sclerosis and
other demylenating diseases; Crohn's disease, IBS, and gastric
reflux disease; infectious disease processes; all autoimmune diseases;
acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions; addictions, emotional,
psychological and sensory/motor neurologic disturbances. I was
skeptical about the amazing claims reported by Dr. Feinberg, but
after he trained his first group of practitioners in September,
and they were all reporting similar results, I just had to see
for myself. In October, I took the NMT training, and in my brief
experience using it with clients, I'm happy to say the claims
appear to be true. Alternative medicine is growing by leaps and
bounds. I'm sure something will soon come along that claims to
be "the newest and best," and maybe it will be. Until that time,
however, I'm delighted that I have this wonderful new technique
in my toolbox.
